
Requirements for sample shipping
Sample preparation
Ensure all samples are properly sealed and labeled with clear identification (e.g., sample ID and date).
Packaging requirements
Primary container: leak-proof, labeled container (e.g., tubes, vials, or specimen bags).
Secondary container: second leak-proof, impact-resistant container (e.g., biohazard bag with absorbent material).
Outer packaging: rigid, protective outer box or container to prevent damage during transit.
Temperature control
Ambient samples (room temperature, 15–25°C): no special temperature controls needed.
Refrigerated samples (2–8°C): use cold packs to maintain temperature.
Frozen samples (-20°C to -80°C): use dry ice.
Documentation requirements
Sample manifest: list of all samples, including sample IDs, description, and quantity. Find template here.
Import/Export permits (for international shipments, if required).
Customs declaration form (if shipping internationally).
Labelling
Clearly mark the package with any required hazard labels (e.g., UN 3373 "Biological Substance, Category B"). Label template here.
If using dry ice, label with UN 1845 "Dry Ice" and indicate the weight of dry ice used. Label template here.
